Zambia wins Africa Cup of Nations 2012!
Zambia is the first southern African country to win the Africa Cup of Nations since South Africa in 1996. Well done Zambia! What a fitting tribute to the Zambian team that lost their lives in 1993. Zambia's great Kalusha Bwalya finally lifted the African Cup of Nations trophy for his tragic teammates on Sunday, 19 years after they were killed in a plane crash.
In a dramatic final, Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba missed a penalty before the game was decided by a tense shootout, with Stoppila Sunzu striking the decisive blow. On Thursday, Zambia's delegation visited a Gabonese beach with former captain Kalusha Bwalya (who now presides over the Zambian FA). It is off this coast that a plane carrying the national squad in 1993 crashed, killing all 30 passengers on board.
